Telephone Systems Introduction
Telephone systems are for communicating with the
outside world. In the countermeasures field it
is essential to verify that they are not doing
so illicitly.
Telephone systems are constantly changing, and
for the professional countermeasures sweep team,
proving that they have not been compromised is
a daunting prospect.
The Winkelmann Model 200/B Telephone Line Analyser
provides a means of verifying the integrity of
lines on public and private exchanges, with analogue
or digital speech whether constant voltage, voltage
drop or dead lines. All lines normally carry a
DC voltage to power the telephone. Illicit bugs
and taps may use the DC power for their operation
to transmit line speech, transmit speech from
a built-in microphone, or operate through a combination
of these methods. The Model 200/B carries out both
DC and Audio Tests.
TLA 200/B System Introduction
The Model 200/B is portable and is the most advanced
Telephone Line Analyser (TLA) on the market. The
200/B is housed in a compartmentalised flight
case, which contains the Central Electronics Unit
(CEU), a number of Remote Signal Controllers (Rescons),
Laptop PC and all cables/connectors.
The Model 200/B was developed from the original
TLA Model 200, which has been in operation for
many years with Government Departments, NATO,
Large Corporations and Professional Sweep Teams,
among others.
TLA 200/B System Description
This advanced system consists of three major components,
the Central Electronics Unit, small RESCONs (Remote
Signal Controllers) and Laptop PC.
The Winkelmann Model 200/B Telephone Line Analyser
checks telephone lines for the presence of illicit
eavesdropping devices. Tests can be carried out
on 16 lines simultaneously. The Central Electronic
Unit comes equipped with 4, 8, 12 or 16 RESCONS,
according to customer requirements.
The powerful software package forms the basis
for the control and testing of lines, and also
for the acquisition and analysis of results. The
200/B software running under windows 95/98 is
simple to use and makes operation of the Telephone
Line Analyser system extremely easy.
Functions
- Classifies lines automatically as Voltage
Drop, Constant Voltage, or Dead Lines.
- Test lines for the presence of series and
parallel bugs, both towards the exchange and
towards the extension telephones. Also tests
for infinity bugs with suppressed first ring,
line audio in on-hook condition and audio
in combination pairs across all lines.
- Tests carried out in accordance with line
type as determined automatically.
- Carries out calculation of mean value, discards
gross deviants and recalculates on remainder,
followed by calculation of Standard Deviation
based on the Mean Value, and flags individual
line tests falling outside preset limits.
- Results may be stored on hard disk.
- Stored results may also be exported to Spreadsheet
or Word processor packages for incorporation
into reports.
- Full auto and manual operation is provided.
- Spectrum analyser facility covering 0 to
8 kHz, together with audio frequency oscilloscope
display.
